New Beginnings

There is a buzz of activity here in the house this morning.  There is a lot of energy in the house.  Even I have tapped into it.  Of course it took me a cup of my morning ritual coffee to get me jump started after a late night at work.  It is the first day of school for two of my children today.  It is also the first time experience for them both.  My oldest daughter starts middle school, and my son start his public school journey with kindergarten.

For me personally it is an interesting time too.  My son’s entrance into the public school system leaves one less child in the house during the day.  Sure I had a single child in the house for a couple of hours a day last year, but this certainly feels different.  It is one more sign that my children are growing up.  It is one more sign that I am growing older.

Next year my youngest will enter kindergarten and this house will feel distinctly empty for six hours a days.  That will certainly take some getting used to.  But that’s next year…I have one more year to enjoy my last “little” one before she too takes those first steps into a larger world.

She Blinded Me With Science

Well it seems like my posts are getting later and later in the day.  Some of that is by design.  I am seeing if there is an ideal posting time to improve my chances of being read by you folks.  In this case however, my delay was planned.  My daughter had the privilege of attending the district science fair for our city.  She had advanced from the individual school science fair earlier in the month to this event for the city.

This was a pretty neat event.  Our city has done science fairs for a good while now, over sixteen years to be exact.  The event was held at our county events center.  A large facility that plays host to our county fair, home and garden shows, 4H events, and the like.  I was not prepared in the least for how many kids and science displays would greet us when we entered the exhibition hall.  It was wall to wall people.  We would later find out that nearly 600 kids from 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades were participating.  That translated to about 350 or so demonstrations going on.  In addition there were several professional exhibitors there as well with lots of hands on stuff to share from the world of science.

I thought I would share some photos from the experience.
